News :- Arsenal Chasing Phil Jagielka of England and Everton

Arsene Wenger's search for a commanding centre-back could lead to Goodison Park and an England international, according to a new report

Arsenal will try and sign Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Jagielka has been one of Everton’s top performers this season and has been rewarded for his good form with nine international caps.

According to the paper, Arsenal tried last summer to sign the 28-year-old, but their £15 million bid was rebuffed by the Merseyside club.

However, it is reported that they will try again this season, with a club source being quoted as saying: “We have had major interest in Jagielka ahead of the next transfer window. But it will take a huge offer for the club to let him leave.”

Arsenal have recently been bought out by American Stan Kroenke and boss Arsene Wenger has indicated that he might be willing to spend more money than in previous years, particularly after coming under scrutiny after another trophyless season.

The Gunners have been without key centre-back Thomas Vermaelen all season and his replacements, Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci have not convinced most observers with their performances.
